First 24 hour call.

Thursday was my first 24hour call and I had no idea what to expect. My 24 hours consisted of 4 admissions, Afib with RVR(signed out AMA the next morning because he had to get back to his gold panning trip), Upper GI Bleed (signed out AMA the next morning because he had to get back to Arizona), Psychosis (still here) and Pneumonia (actually stayed as long as I wanted her to). I ruled out labor in one woman and sent another guy home with a varicose vein ulcer who bled for 30 minutes in the shower and came in with a BP of 44/22 (went home 8 hours later). My favorite of the night were my drunks (doesn't matter the time or day, the drunks come in. 9am, midnight, all fair game!) Mine were two 20 something girls who claimed..." I only had 2 shots..." Yeah, ok. I had my first experience taking off the pants of a girl who was found on the sidewalk, covered in misquito bites and was soaked in urine. I tried taking off her pains to put on clean clothes and what do I get in return: slapping, kicking, swearing...last time we pick you up off the sidewalk. Blood alcohol level= 0.428...good god!
Also ordered sealskin slippers from my patient I discharged on Thursday. Can't wait to get them!
